FAQ

We are a referral only clinic, appointments will only be booked once a referral is received. To book appointments, please call or email the clinic.

Is Neurofeedback safe?

Yes, neurotherapy is considered safe. It is non-invasive, non-painful and involves monitoring brain activity through sensors placed on the scalp. We have many qualified professionals who ensure that the procedure is conducted safely and effectively, tailoring the therapy to meet your individual needs, and monitoring your progress throughout the treatment.

Do I need a referral? Is Neurotherapy covered by Medicare or Private Health insurance?

Medicare rebates are available for psychological services for clients with a referral from a medical practitioner/GP. However, please note that our neurotherapy sessions and other assessments do not require a referral and are not covered by Medicare or Private Health.

Do you offer packages for Neurotherapy and rTMS sessions?

Yes, we can.  Call us on 4767 7143 to discuss package options we can offer for multiple sessions at a discounted rate. Please note, these packages must be paid upfront.

Can Neurofeedback be used on a client currently on medication?

Yes, neurofeedback can be used in conjunction with medication. It is important to inform your neurofeedback provider about any medications you are currently taking, as this can impact your brainwave patterns and response to treatment. Neurofeedback is often integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan, which may include medication, therapy and other interventions, to address the individual needs of each client. Working closely with your healthcare provider can help ensure that neurofeedback therapy is safely and effectively integrated into your overall treatment approach.

What should I expect to feel after a Neurotherapy or rTMS session?

The most common side effects experienced are considered to be relatively mild.  These are more likely to be experienced during the first few sessions. Side effects of treatment may include a slight headache and tiredness. We recommend increasing your water intake on the day of treatment.

Where can I provide feedback?

You can provide feedback in person, over the phone on 074767 7143, via email on info@neurohs.com.au, or in writing at PO Box 678, Townsville Qld 4810.

Neuro Health Solutions will endeavour to act on and improve when an anonymous complaint or feedback is received. All complaints will be registered in the Complaints Register. The register allows for recording and tracking of the outcomes of complaints. The register is reviewed on a regular basis by the Directors with a view to identifying recurrent themes, systemic issues, risks or organisational processes that need to be addressed.

What will my first counselling session look like?

Attending your first session with a practitioner can be daunting, but it’s entirely normal to feel nervous or anxious. Your psychologist understands this and will strive to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for you. During this initial meeting, your practitioner will focus on gaining an understanding of your background and the factors that led you to seek psychological support.  They may ask about your family history, life experiences, and mental health challenges, possibly including the completion of questionnaires.  Additionally, they will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have about the treatment process.

Can I do my counselling sessions via telehealth?

We do offer the option to attend your sessions with a practitioner through phone calls and videoconferencing, a recent development made permanent under the Medicare Better Access Scheme. It’s advisable to communicate with your practitioner to explore the available options and ensure they align with your preferences. Yours practitioner will provide further guidance on maximizing the benefits of these telehealth alternatives.

How do I get the most out of my counselling sessions?

To optimize the benefits of your counselling sessions, active participation and a collaborative mindset are crucial.  Engage fully in your sessions by honestly sharing your thoughts and feelings, which significantly enhances therapy’s effectiveness. Some therapeutic methods involve homework or practicing skills discussed during sessions; taking notes and revisiting them can aid in applying what you learn to your daily life.  Additionally, scheduling sessions at distraction-free times and locations ensures full engagement in the therapeutic process, minimizing disruptions from work, family or technology.

Do you offer a mental health crisis service?

No. If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, Neuro Health Solutions is unable to provide immediate assistance, but there are several resources available for support.
